Fretboard Protector Guard for Bass 34" Fret Scale

Product Story

There is nothing like peace of mind while saving time and money. MusicNomad's patent pending B-34” Fret Shield sets a new higher standard for total fretboard protection when performing fret work such as polishing, leveling and crowning on 34” Bass Fret Scales up to 24 frets and works on 4 and 5 string bass guitars. Say "NO" to blue tape with our reusable design that goes on in seconds, fully protects without damaging the fretboard and lasts 100's of fret jobs. Our high quality stainless steel is the perfect thickness at .008" (.20mm), uses a precision manufacturing process free of burrs, and leaves all edges smooth and rounded. Our innovative formed drop-down edges allow the rubber bands we include to hold the Fret Shield in place securely and keep the bands below the top surface to avoid damaging them during the polishing process. Whether your fretboard is finished maple or unfinished rosewood with inlays, your board will thank you for protecting it. Fret Shields come in the most popular Guitar and Bass Fret Scale sizes and even include a convenient hand hole. That's MusicNomad quality - raising the bar in equipment care.

Product Features

Our patent pending Fret Shield gives you total fretboard protection when performing fret work such as polishing, leveling and crowning on a 34” Bass Fret Scale up to 24 frets. Say "no” to blue tape and save time and money with this reusable design that goes on in seconds, fully protects without damaging the fretboard and lasts 100's of fret jobs.
Our high quality stainless steel is the perfect thickness at .008" (.20mm). We use a precision manufacturing process free of burrs and leaves all edges smooth and rounded, so it protects the fretboard without damaging it. The tapered design has slot sizes that measure from the first fret .130” (3.302mm) W x 2.218" (54.06mm) L to the last fret .130” (3.302mm) W x 3.179” (80.742mm) L and fits all fret sizes (from narrow to jumbo) found on 4 and 5 string bass guitars with up to 24 frets.

Our innovative formed drop-down edges allow the rubber bands we include to hold the Fret Shield in place securely and keep the bands below the top surface to avoid damaging them during the polishing process. We have designed 8 tabs along one edge and 7 tabs along the other to accommodate the most common bass body designs. Connect the rubber band of the 8th tab diagonally to the 7th tab of the opposite side. The bands help form the shield to every fretboard radius.

Rigorously tested and designed to be used with power buffing wheels, power polishing pads and other polishing systems. Laser etched logo and size will withstand sanding and filing during fretwork. Extremely useful for protecting all unfinished (rosewood, ebony) and finished (poly and lacquer) fretboards. Convenient hang hole.

Q: How do I determine the scale length of my guitar?

A: How to determine your scale length depends on what tools you have on your bench. See below for different methods of measuring scale length based on the tools you can access. We have provided 3 ways below. (MN820), place the zero edge flush against the inside edge of the nut (see photo below)

and measure to the center of the 12th fret (see photo below).

If your scale length is one of the more common scale lengths, the center of the fret will align with one of the scale callouts on the ruler. If not, read measurement and then double it to calculate your guitar scale.

2. Using a tape measure or ruler, align the 1" mark with the inside edge of the nut (see photo below)

and measure to the center of the 12th fret (see photo below).

Take the difference between the measurement and 1" (subtract 1" from the measurement you get) and double it to calculate your guitar scale.
3. If you are still unsure about your guitar scale, message us and we will be happy to assist you.
